The Pride of America week

Four islands, five port days, one rule

Plan around the all-aboard time, not the departure time. All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before the ship sails, and it's the real deadline for every tour you book.

  1. Saturday

    Honolulu, Oʻahu

Board at Pier 2 and sail away in the evening past Diamond Head.

    Embark
  2. Sunday – Monday

    Kahului, Maui

Two days in port. Do the long day first, the early-morning trip second.

    Overnight
  3. Tuesday

    Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island

Volcano day: Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and the rainforest waterfalls.

    One day
  4. Wednesday

    Kona, Hawaiʻi Island

Clear water, coffee country and history, reached by small boat from the ship.

    Tender port
  5. Thursday – Friday

    Nāwiliwili, Kauaʻi

Two days in port. Nā Pali from the air or the water, then dinner ashore.

    Overnight
  6. Saturday

    Honolulu, Oʻahu

Early arrival. One last great day on Oʻahu before your flight home.

    Disembark

The hard part

Four islands in seven days is a lot to plan

Most guests spend weeks sorting tours on four different islands, then still worry about the ship. Here's what makes it tricky.

  1. 01
Every day runs on the ship's clockSome stops are a single day, and one late tour can put you at the pier with no time to spare.
  2. 02
Ship excursions fill up fastMany mean big buses, long lines and more time on the coach than at the stop.
  3. 03
Hundreds of tours, four islandsReviews blur together, and it's hard to tell which tours actually fit a port day.
  4. 04
The Honolulu bookendsWhere to stay before you sail, and what to do with your luggage on the last morning.

What it costs to get it wrong

A port day you don't get back

An hour in line

is an hour of Hawaiʻi you don't get back.

A tour that runs late

has you racing back to the pier instead of enjoying the last stop.

A bus window

is how many guests see the island. Ship excursions often cost more and come with bigger buses.

The one you missed

is the beach, waterfall or lūʻau you hear about once you're home.

Meet the founder

Real people, based in Honolulu

I started Explore Hawaiʻi Tours to give visitors the kind of help you'd get from a friend who lives here: straight answers on where to stay, what's worth booking and what you can skip.

I'm based on Oʻahu, and my team plans port days and pre- and post-cruise stays on all four islands the ship visits. When you send us your sailing dates, a real person reads them and gets back to you.

Questions

Pride of America port days, answered

Still wondering about something? Ask it on the call.

How long is the Pride of America in each port?

The ship stays overnight in Maui (Kahului) and Kauaʻi (Nāwiliwili), so you get close to two days on each. Hilo and Kona are single days of roughly ten hours each. Exact times change by sailing, so we plan around your ship's schedule.

Is Kona a tender port?

Yes. Kona is the only tender port on the Pride of America. Small boats carry guests from the ship to Kailua Pier, so early tours need an early tender. Head back to the tender line 60 to 90 minutes before the last boat.

Should I book excursions through the ship or on my own?

Ship excursions are simple to book and timed to the ship, but they often cost more and come with bigger buses. Booking on your own gives you smaller groups and more choice, as long as every tour includes pier pickup and finishes well before all-aboard. That timing is what we plan for.

Will my tour get me back to the ship on time?

We only suggest port-day tours that include pier pickup and finish with a comfortable buffer before all-aboard. On one-day ports we recommend a guided tour over a rental car. If you do drive, leave at least 90 minutes of buffer.

Is the planning call really free?

Yes. Fill out the short form first, then pick a time for a 30-minute call with a trip planner from our Honolulu team. There's no cost and no obligation.

Planning calls are for guests who'd like us to plan and book several port days. Keeping it simple or traveling on a lighter budget? Our self-guided plans are free to use, and we'll send you the right one after the form.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel 72 hours or more before your tour for a full refund. If your tour is cancelled for reasons outside your control, like weather, sea conditions, the tour itself cancelling or your ship being unable to make port, you get a full refund or help rebooking. Cancellations within 72 hours, no-shows and missed pickups aren't refundable. One Honolulu team handles every change. Read the full cancellation policy.

What if I only need help with one port?

That's fine. Many guests plan one island with us and do the rest on their own.

Can you book our hotel before or after the cruise?

Yes. Tick the hotel box on the form and we'll include it in your plan.

What should I do on disembarkation day?

Match it to your flight. With an evening flight, a Pearl Harbor and Honolulu tour that carries your luggage and drops you at the airport makes the most of the day. With a flight before about 1 pm, walk off early and head straight to the airport, about 10 minutes from Pier 2.
